Dresden, the captial of the
state of Saxony, is situated in a
valley on the River Elbe. For centuries,
it was the residence of the
Kings of Saxony and characterised
by extraordinary cultural and artistic
splendor. The tragic bombing
of Dresden in World War II and
40 years of socialistic regime left
their mark on the city. However,
the reconstructed Frauenkirche
Church, the Semper Opera House
and the Royal Palace as well as
many other historical monuments
recreate the former beauty of
the city. Don´t miss the “Grünes
Gewölbe”. Since German re-unification,
Dresden has developed as
an important scientific, cultural,
political, and economic center in
the Eastern part of Germany. It is
once again referred to as the
“Florence on the river Elbe” and
represents an attractive venue for
the 3rd International Conference
on cyclic GMP.
